Ashlee Nicole Simpson, the sister of
well-established pop singer Jessica Simpson is a young American
singer and songwriter. Many people know her as the sister of
singer Jessica, but she is a lot more than just a sister and
she currently is one of the most expected young talents around
and many people thinks that she is going to conquer more
mountains of success than her sister did.
Ashlee was born in October 3, 1984. She is a girl with multiple
talents like singing, song writing and acting talents. Her
debut album was ‘Autobiography’ (2004) and it turned out to be
a big hit. And the reality series The Ashlee Simpson Show won
her much praise.
She performed in The Saturday night live in October 2004 and
her performance using a pre-recorded sound track received much
criticism. In 2005 she released her second album called ‘I am
me’.
Ashlee Simpson has experienced more highs and lows in the last
year than some recording artists do in a lifetime. But those
who are really close to her say that she is the kind of girl
who never gives up and her principle is fight till victory. She
once said “Yeah, there are moments when you don't want to get
out of bed,” she says, “but you have to find your inner
strength. That's something I found.” Indeed, as an artist.
Ashlee has already made a national impact with her two hit
albums ‘Autobiography’ and ‘I am me’ and she is all set to make
an international impact and it is expected that her upcoming
work is going to be more sensational than her previous works
because of the kind of improvement and maturity that she has
acquired in all these years.
At 21, Ashlee has left girlhood behind. On the new CD she
explores dark themes side by side with plenty of flamboyant
fun. She thinks that she has made a good improvement by working
with big names like Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge and Alanis
Morissette.
Ashlee was born in a place called Waco in Texas but she was
raised in Dallas. Her father Joe Simpson a former Baptist
minister is now her manager. Her mother is Tina Ann Drew is a
Sunday school teacher and it was her who home schooled Ashlee.
Simpson began studying classical ballet at the age of three,
and was admitted to the School of American Ballet in New York
City at the age of eleven. She had a born talent for dancing
and she was one of the popular students of that school and
everybody including her teachers had high expectations on her.
She appeared in many television commercials when she was young
and when her sister became a pop star she got the opportunity
to be one of her backup dancers. Later, she began appearing in
films and television series, including an episode of the sitcom
Malcolm in the Middle in 2001, a minor role in the 2002 film
The Hot Chick and a recurring role on the family drama series
7th Heaven. In 2003 she recorded a sound track song for the
movie Freaky Friday and the song was called ‘Just Let Me Cry’.
When she was in New York she suffered from an eating disorder;
the condition lasted about six months, and she dropped to about
31 kg (70 pounds) at 159 cm (5ft 2in), but her parents then
stepped in and helped her to improve her feeding habits and she
recovered the ill condition without much problem. And later she
and her family moved to Los Angeles. Life in LA was far better
than life anywhere else for her because she was more accessible
for many directors and producers in Los Angeles and she got
several opportunities in TV shows and movies.
The single that preceded the album, “Pieces of Me,” was one of
the biggest hits of the summer in the U.S. and sold well
elsewhere. However, the follow-up singles “Shadow” and “La La”
were less successful. She occasionally appeared on reality show
named ‘Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica’. It was a show about the
married life of Jessica and Nick Lachey who was her husband
when the show was alive.
Her live performance colleagues are Ray Brady (guitar), Braxton
Olita (guitar), Joey Kaimana (bass guitar—from 2004 to 2005
Zach Kennedy filled this role), Chris Megert (keyboards and
vocals) and Chris Fox (drums). In addition to her own album
songs she also sang several songs for others like the song
‘drummer boy’ for her sister’s album ‘Rejoyce’, "Christmas
Past, Present, and Future" on the 2004 holiday album Radio
Disney Jingle Jams etc.
In 2004 Simpson received the "Song of the summer" Teen Choice
Award for "Pieces of Me," and she also won the ‘Fresh face
award’ and a Billboard award for new female artist in December.
In Early 2005 the Entertainment Weekly named her “The Breakout
Star of 2004”.
The mistake she made in the Saturday Night Live Show was a big
bummer for her and she had to face several criticisms and
audience boos for that like in her 2005 orange bowl performance
in Miami, Florida, she received a big ‘BOO’ from the spectators
after the performance.
Simpson had a supporting role as an aspiring actress named Clea
in Undiscovered (originally titled Wannabe), an independent
film that was released in theaters in August 2005. But the film
was a big disappointment and so was her performance. The one
and only thing that she got from the movie was a Razzie
nomination for Worst Supporting Actress.
Simpson appeared on the December 2005/January 2006 cover of
Teen People with her sister Jessica. Ashlee previously was a
blonde like Jessica and she dyed hair her dark during the MTV
reality show.
In November 2005, eTalk daily broadcast a video of a late-night
visit made by Simpson to a McDonald's fast-food restaurant in
Toronto, Canada. Simpson appeared to be intoxicated in the
video, and was shown arguing with a member of the staff, as
well as rejecting a customer's attempt to get an autograph from
her because he wouldn't kiss her feet.
In her life she has been through several ups and downs. In
February 2006 MTV’s total request live (TRL) honored her by
presenting the “bounce back artist” award for being able to
recover from several bummers and bad times in her career.
In April 2006 she had a nose job and when asked about it she
neither denied it of accepted it. And later in another
interview she said that plastic surgery was a "personal choice"
that one should only decide to do for oneself and not for
others. In June 2006, she turned down an offer of $4 million to
pose nude for playboy.
Besides, just think about how many people can recover from such
ups and downs and then come back with a number one platinum
album. That takes some real guts and hard work. That’s why many
